Hear What Our Students are Saying!
John had a good energy and was involved modifying and adjusting each couple including myself. He also introduced styling techniques that improved my dancing. I wish I had taken a video to capture them before I forget. It has been a good class and it emphasized styling, which in my case provided a great improvement. Now if I could only sustain it.

I really enjoyed that he was knowledgeable and funny. He used a bunch of silly moments, and said “But it’ll stay in your heard” and it definitely did. He was also able to break down a lot of technique into simple, easy to understand terms.

Positives about the “John Experience.”
- Gentle with fragile dance egos like ours, and especially Kathy.
- Put us at ease
- Amazing technical knowledge
- Depth of dance history knowledge is fun and fascinating
- Doesn’t mind questions
- All input is practical and can be put into practice
- Meets dancers where they are and doesn’t make them feel like everything they’ve ever done was a waste of time.
- Considers and explains how to make your body type work for you.
- Piggyback and builds on everything you have already taught us rather than sending us in a totally different, frustrating direction.
- He takes time to VERIFY that we understand.
If you ever put together a group for a “pilgrimage” to New York for more concentrated experience, Kathy and I would most likely sign up.
Bottom line is, the guy is just so personable and makes things fun.

I love that he was so validating, emotionally intelligent, and encouraged self expression. He was very funny and engaging, encouraging. His methods felt very organic/natural. He was playful and sensual (I enjoy that but I know a lot of ppl don’t). I felt his kindness and care as a human being in a way that I haven’t from other guest instructors.

I loved dancing 💃 with John. I like the way he teaches. I will definitely come back to any of his workshops. He is old school and knows his stuff. Even when we did things differently he showed us the right was and gave the history of the dance. That made the difference. Wished more people would participate in the mini competition this would give the feeling of the real thing. But to each his or her own. Not everyone is as crazy about dancing 💃 as I am.

I needed this weekend for so many reasons, so thank you all for hosting it. I love that John’s perspective of dance is through the music. He challenged us to dance with the music and not dance to the music. He was kind and encouraging to everyone, and no one felt embarrassed or singled out, I don’t think. Personally, through the workshops, I was reminded that I have been taught well by Winston and you. Through my private sessions, I was reminded to embrace being “different” from the typical female ballroom dance, which I struggle with A LOT more than I let on. It keeps me from enjoying it sometimes.
